Welcome to Palm Class!
Our topic this term is Scrummdiddlyumptious. It is based around a story called 'The Giant of Jum' by Elli Woollard. This book crosses over with other traditional tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk and ends with The Giant of Jum realising that cake is much tastier than children and that it is much more rewarding to help other people than to be grumpy. During this topic, we will be looking at how humans need food for nutrition and what nutritional value different food types have. Later in the term we will be designing our own food product and then creating a persuasive advert to 'sell' it. We will be learning about the Hindu celebration of Diwali in RE and thinking about our important relationships in PSHE. We will be learning the skills needed to play tag rugby throughout the half term in our PE lessons. Our Maths learning will focus on place value of numbers to 1000, we will investigate the value of hundreds, tens and ones and use this to help us order and compare 3 digit numbers before beginning to add and subtract with them.
Our first class read!! The Boy at the Back of the Class...
With the current situation in Afghanistan we felt that it would be good to ensure all children are starting the year with a book that explores attitudes towards those from other cultures and in a broader sense, those whose lives are different to ours.
The Boy at the Back of the Class is a child’s perspective on the refugee crisis, highlighting the importance of friendship and kindness in a world that doesn’t always make sense.
