Biscovey Juniors

Design Technology

Our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to develop children’s creativity, problem-solving skills and resilience through a challenging and inspiring programme of learning. Wherever possible, learning is linked to meaningful contexts and curriculum themes, enabling children to design and make products for a real purpose and audience.

At Biscovey Primary Academy, children are taught to research, design, make and evaluate a range of products while developing an understanding of how design and technology shapes the world around them. Through practical experiences, pupils learn to select and use appropriate materials, tools and techniques safely and effectively.

Design and Technology is taught through carefully planned units that provide opportunities to develop subject-specific vocabulary, technical knowledge and wider communication skills. Children are encouraged to explain their ideas, justify design choices and reflect on their work throughout the design process.

Our curriculum is built on the progressive development of knowledge, skills and understanding, allowing children to learn, practise and apply key concepts with increasing confidence and independence. We celebrate pupils’ achievements by showcasing the products they create and the innovative thinking behind them.

It is our aim to ensure that all children leave Biscovey Primary Academy equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to design, innovate, solve problems and create purposeful products in an ever-changing world.
