Welcome to Year 6 Ash Class 

This half term we will centre our learning around the theme of ‘the Benin Kingdom’. In our history lessons, we will be looking at a range of primary and secondary sources as we answer our enquiry question; 

‘What sort of place was Benin 1,000 years ago and how do we know?’ 

We have lots of exciting experiences planned, including designing and making our own pop-up books in our design and technology unit. In science, we are exploring how light helps us to see. These lessons include many opportunities for practical investigations such as using torches to test the opacity of a range of materials or investigating how our faces are reflected in mirrors. 

This half term, our writing lessons will focus on developing our grammar and punctuation skills. This will help prepare pupils when they begin their writing units and innovate a range of fictional and non-fiction texts. In maths, we will begin with place value before moving on to the four operations, including how to solve multi-step word problems. Our P.E. lessons this half term focus on developing our skills in netball, including footwork, attacking and defending.
