Welcome to Year Five Maple Class
This half term, we have lots of exciting opportunities planned, including our annual May Day celebrations and Summer Fayre.
Our learning in Year 5 will centre around the History topic of the Victorians as we investigate the enquiry question, ‘A Dark Age or a Golden Era?’.  While, in Science, we will be looking at ‘Living Things and Life Cycles’ as we answer our inquiry question; ‘Does everything reproduce?’
In our Writing lessons we will be exploring a range of poetry from Limericks to Shakespearean Sonnets. As well as this, we will be delving into a science experiment, learning how to write it up. In VIPERS this half term, we will be reading The Time Travelling Cat & The Great Victorian Stink by Julia Jarman, as well as exploring a range of Victorian non-fiction texts.
In Maths we will continue our unit on decimals and percentages, before moving on to perimeter and area and statistics.
In PE our main focus will be on Net & wall games- specifically tennis-, working on our hand eye co-ordination and teamwork skills. In addition to this, we will also be learning and rehearsing our Year 5 country dance for May Day.
Towards the end of the half term, we will be completing our DT unit, which is creating moving vehicles.
Children will bring home their homework sheet at the start of this half term and can be found at the bottom of our website page.
Maple have P.E on Tuesday and Friday each week, please ensure that your child’s kit is in school each day.
Thank you for your continued support.
