Welcome to Year 6Â Hazel ClassÂ
This half term, our Year Six pupils are set for an exciting and enriching journey across the curriculum. In Mathematics, we will be focusing on fractions — learning how to add and subtract them with confidence and applying this knowledge to solve multi-step problems. In Writing, our theme of Bandits, Outlaws and Pirates will inspire creative non-chronological reports, followed by letter writing based on the traditional tale of Hansel and Gretel.Â
Our Reading lessons will explore a range of non-fiction texts alongside the classic novel Goodnight Mister Tom, encouraging pupils to develop their comprehension and analytical skills while deepening their empathy and understanding of historical contexts.
In Science, we will investigate electricity, learning what circuit symbols represent, and discovering how voltage affects the brightness of bulbs and the volume of buzzers.Â
In RE, we will be exploring why Christians believe Jesus was the Messiah. We will be discussing how Christmas links to this, including the events leading up to this in the Bible, and will be reflecting on how Christmas is celebrated in society today.Â
In Art, we will compare the work of artists Frederick T.W. Cook and Henry Moore before producing silhouette paintings inspired by the Blitz. PE will focus on gymnastics — mastering balances, rolls, and jumps to create our own routines.
We also look forward to our WOW Day, where pupils will dress as WWII evacuees and meet “Winston Churchill”, and an exciting end-of-term trip to see a pantomime at Hall for Cornwall!
