At Biscovey Primary Academy, science is taught through a carefully sequenced curriculum that builds on pupils’ prior knowledge and develops their understanding over time. Learning is structured around key questions that progressively answer broader umbrella questions, ensuring that all aspects of the National Curriculum are covered in a meaningful and coherent way. Through this approach, pupils make connections between previous and new learning, enabling them to deepen their scientific knowledge and understanding. Alongside developing substantive knowledge, children are given regular opportunities to work scientifically by asking questions, making predictions, planning and carrying out investigations, observing changes, recording findings and drawing conclusions. These enquiry skills encourage pupils to think and behave like real scientists, fostering curiosity, critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
