At Biscovey Primary Academy, we want all pupils to develop a love of reading for life. Reading is at the core of everything we do and we believe that it is a fundamental part of our learning, development and enjoyment. Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and is embedded throughout everyday learning. We foster a culture of reading for pleasure while building on pupils’ prior learning to develop confident, fluent and skilled readers throughout key stage two. 

Whole-class VIPERS lessons explicitly develop vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarising skills through high-quality texts, teacher modelling and discussion. Alongside this, Accelerated Reader ensures pupils access appropriately challenging books that develop fluency and strengthen comprehension, supporting every child to become a confident and enthusiastic reader.

We are determined that every pupil will learn to read, regardless of their background, needs or abilities. We support all pupils, including the weakest readers, to make sufficient progress, reading widely and often, with fluency and comprehension appropriate to their age.
