Welcome to Sycamore Class
This half term, we are excited to be learning about our local area of Truro and how this compares to Truro in Nova Scotia. This will be part of our geography learning this term and looking into the history of the area through a fun trip!Â
Our reading will explore a range of non-fiction texts around Cornwall in addition to sharing the novel Seal Girl by Elspeth Stevenson. We encourage children to share a love of reading through discussion, comprehension and through delving into the wonderful story. In writing, we are creating imaginative setting descriptions about Wonka World and a science experiment to support our learning of sound. We will be having a wow start to our writing with chocolate tasting, mystery packaging and creating our own designs.Â
In maths we will be exploring area, multiplication and division - building our confidence with our times tables. We are continuing our focus on times table practice to increase our fluency.Â
Our new topic for science is investigating sound to explore volume, pitch and how sound travels to the ear. We will explore how different materials insulate sound too.Â
In RE, we are learning about Islam and deepening our understanding of their faith and culture. In our wider curriculum, we are creating sketches of Cornwall in our art lessons and focusing on dance within our PE lessons.Â
For homework, we ask that children read their reading book every day, as well as accessing TT Rockstars. There is also a half termly homework grid of optional tasks linked to the learning, which can be found below.
Sycamore have P.E. on a Monday and Friday, though we ask children to have their P.E. kit in school every day.
