Welcome to Sycamore Class
This half term, we are excited to be learning about the Roman Empire and the rise and fall they faced. We will be learning about Boudicca, colonisation and the strength of the Roman army.
Our reading will explore a range of non-fiction texts around the Roman Empire in addition to sharing the novel Empires End by Leila Rashid. We encourage children to share a love of reading through discussion, comprehension and through delving into the wonderful story. In writing, we are creating a character speech narrative setting and exploring further into the character of Boudicca. We will be having a wow start to our writing with a Roman themed day and discovering all about Roman art.
In maths we will be exploring length and perimeter and delving into the fun of fractions. We will continue to build our confidence with our times tables and increase our fluency.Â
Our new topic for science is investigating electricity and understanding what a circuit looks with the symbols and drawing.
In RE, we are learning about Judaism and Jewish festivals. In our wider curriculum, we are creating torches in our DT lessons and focusing on hockey within our PE lessons.
For homework, we ask that children read their reading book every day, as well as accessing TT Rockstars. There is also a half termly homework grid of optional tasks linked to the learning, which can be found below.
Times Tables - For children in Year 4 we are fast approaching the Multiplication Check in June. Daily Times Table practice will really benefit them - please speak to us if you want some ideas for different activities.
Sycamore have P.E. on a Tuesday and Friday, though we ask children to have their P.E. kit in school every day.
