Throughout each term, children study the core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy and Science. Other subjects covered over the year include Geography, History, RE, Art, Design and Technology, ICT, SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspect of Learning), and PE.
Every year group has PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment time) of one afternoon per week. The teachers are not present in the classroom so during these afternoons the children are taught by our team of qualified HLTA’s (Higher Level Teaching Assistants) who plan lessons in discussion with the teachers, then deliver them.
Throughout the autumn and spring terms, Friday mornings include a swimming session for every class in the school at Polkyth Leisure Centre. Classes swim on a rotation basis.
Assemblies are also held on a regular basis, with Monday being the Achievers assembly where we celebrate children’s weekly achievements with work and behaviour. From time to time we have guest speakers in our assemblies.
During the year we hold a Science week and an Arts week, both of which are extremely popular.
