PE & Sport Premium

Again this year the government has committed to renewing its package of funding for physical education (P.E.) and school sport. Through this ‘Physical Education and School Sport Premium’ the government is continuing to provide additional funding to support the delivery of P.E. and sport in primary schools.

This funding will be ring fenced and will be allocated directly to primary schools across England, providing them with a dedicated resource to buy in invaluable expertise and support. Funding will be allocated through a lump sum for each school and a per-pupil top-up mechanism. The formula will reference the number of primary-aged pupils (i.e. children between the ages of 5 and 11).

For this academic year the government have maintained the amount of sports funding from the previous academic year. The funding formula for this year is explained in the below downloadable document.

Sustainability Statement 2021 / 2022

All of our PE premium was deployed into aspects of provision with future sustainability in mind.   The impact of COVID-19 restrictions, both within school and on a national basis, limited the impact of some of the spend.  For example, the impact of Sports Leaders was minimal as restrictions on movement between pods, as well as limited events taking place, meant their role was somewhat diminished.  In some cases, resources/schemes purchased have been able to roll over into 2021-22.
The impact of our spend in 2020-21 was
  • Staff confidence to deliver high quality PE lessons has improved due to CPD being provided for all.
  • Staff CPD focused on P.E. lessons being active throughout, the use of small sided-games to ensure all children are involved and differentiation of activities to meet the needs of all learners.
  • When possible we ensured children remained active throughout each day.
  • A new scheme of work for P.E. has been introduced, to ensure high quality lessons and progression throughout the school (this needs refining in 2021-22).
  • The Year 6 children were all offered 'Top-Up' swimming sessions due to missed provision in both year 5 and 6.
The use of the money to date has had a significant impact on the quality and sustainability of high quality PE and school sport, as well as increasing activity levels throughout the school.
Please see below documents which out line how we spent our P.E. and Sport Premium in 2021-22.
Planned Spend 2021-22
In 2021-22 we plan on spending the money on areas as follows:
  • Staff CPD.  Due to several new members of staff joining the team, including 3 ECTs, CPD for all staff will be provided through the year.
  • Increased levels of activity for all pupils, ensuring a minimum of 30 active minutes in each school day.
  • Opportunities beyond the school day for all.  Provision of clubs, activities and events to engage and inspire all pupils.
The document below outlines our planned spend in more detail:
