Welcome back Cedar class!

We have some very exciting lessons planned in the lead up to Christmas!

Our topic this half term is all about the Greeks! Our curriculum lessons will be history based, where we will learn about what life was like as a Greek citizen. We will explore events such as the Battle of Marathon and the start of the Olympics! In science, our focus for this half term in on the digestive system and our teeth. The children will learn about the functions of the body parts involved in the digestive process as well as the different types of teeth and their functions. They will also look at the roles of predators and prey within food chains. During the final week of this half term, we will look at the work of ancient Greek skeuopoios, to help us design and make our own ancient Greek theatre masks using clay!

In writing, we will be looking at The Story of Arachne which is a Greek myth. The children will explore a range of skills to support them in writing a sequel to this myth. During our second unit of writing, the children will produce a non-chronological report about Greek Gods and Goddesses. Finally, we will finish the half term with a poetry unit on riddles.

In Maths, we will be starting this half term by finishing our addition and subtraction unit. We will then move on to area before starting our multiplication and division unit. We will also be continuing to develop the children's knowledge of times table facts. In PE, our focus is gymnastics. The children will explore balancing, jumps and rolls to help them develop their own sequence of movements. Our other curriculum lessons this half term will be RE and PSHE.
